New lease of life

Remember my old hand-crank sewing machine? I finally found someone who is willing to restore it. He told me that this machine is very precious, no longer in production and he gave it a new lease of life. *Smile*

...a very happy mama

大巫见小屋

After much persuasion from the spouse and the son, I have decided to replaced my handphone. My sister call my old handphone a dinosaur. If not for my 'lao hua' (long-sightedness), I would have continued using my dinosaur. I am not a handphone geek. It takes a long while for me to get adjusted to a new phone.

This hand-crank Singer sewing machine belonged to my grandmother. After she passed on, it was handed to my mum and my mum gave it to me. It has been sitting in my mum's place, waiting for me to return to give it a new lease of life. Now, that I am back, I will do just that.

As you can see, it is very worn out through natural wear and tear. My mum just used masking tape to hold the base together.I was trying to find someone or  some place where they can do some restoration work. Some one offer to buy from me.

Did he really think I would exchange this for cash? Well, in this money craze society, many would have exchanged cash for anything but sorry, he has approached the wrong person. Some things just cannot be bought with money.

However, there is a kind soul who gave me an address where I may just restore it. The spouse and I brought it down and they were willing to give it a try. Once it is up and running, the spouse will use it (I am rotten with sewing) and it will go to Ann when the time comes.

Life is leaving something meaningful behind.

Please bear with me

This is my new blog about the next cycle of my life. Being a new one, it will take some time for me to find the best design with the best layout and the right font size...all these will help me with my writing. No, not more professional but more writer-friendly as yours truly advance with the years. While the heart will remain forever 25 but you know, things like the eyes will need more help. You may see a few changes taking place during this period of time. There may be also a long period of pause as I get my house ready, with the shipment arriving, homeschooling two active kids, getting myself adjusted to a new surrounding, making friends with the uncles and aunties at the market, shops etc...

So, please bear with mama *smile*

The must-do activity

This is always the must-do…visit to the Queenstown Library. Was telling the spouse that we must be very thankful for our kids who love to read.

Lost in the world of words

We are really lost. Must adjust to all the changes. Now, we are allowed to borrow up to six books each (in the past, was only four). Even the machine to scan the books which you borrow has been upgraded. Look, they can scan so many books at one go. Wah…so good hor.

Then, we chanced upon this 'wonderful, bring back sweet memories' shop.

First festival since our return. The moon-cake festival!

We are HOME

We have been back for two weeks now. Have been busy making sure the house renovation is running smoothly (look out for the before and after pictures) and at the same time emailing the schools about the arrival of the famous two! Ann's is finally settled. It was the right choice to send her to the Shanghai Singapore  International School as both schools make use of the same curriculum . No, further assessment for Ann, she will move on to P3. Now, will have to settle Kai. He is moving on to Secondary 1, a whole new experience for him. New school, new friends. This is the school exam period, it will take some time for them to get back. Just have to wait.

The kids are specially happy, their long awaited extended vacation but no escape from mama's work *evil smile*. Still they are having fun.

All in all, it has been a great home coming.

She is HOME

Tall buildings, short buildings even an old school…they make up my home. No big house, no garden, no car, no driver…does it really matter? I sip gourmet coffee, drink organic tea at a fraction of the price. Char Kuay Teow, Or-chian, Chee Cheong Fun, Chilli crab....I have them all. I hail the cab, I hop onto buses of all kinds and thoroughly enjoy myself…this is where I belong.
